Candidate Detail

Annaa Laura Lopez has two A’s at the end of her name, yes two A’s, it’s not a typo; it’s what defines her as her own person. She loves her name because she was named after her mother whose name is also Ana, spelled with one N and her sister who also shares the same name, but in her case, Anna is spelled with two N’s.

Like Walt Disney, Annaa’s passion for film, creativity, and imagination is the reason why she is a film major. Her favorite quote from Walt Disney is “It's kind of fun to do the impossible…” Walt Disney’s creative legacy continues to leave his mouse print throughout the world.

Annaa was born on December 27, 1995, to a loving family in Yuma AZ. When Annaa was born her doctor told her parents that she had a heart defect. The doctor also told her parents that she would need to have heart surgery. At the age of 6 months, Annaa’s parents made the hard decision to go with the surgery. Soon after she enrolled in school Annaa was diagnosed with dyslexia and speech problems. Although Annaa repeated first grade she skipped 8th grade and went straight to high school.

Annaa passion for media arts and film started in her Television Production Class in high school. This class would broadcast the school news daily and would take turns shooting, editing, and working with Adobe software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. She attained the knowledge of working in a news television production studio and also had the opportunity to compete in various Media Arts skills competitions with an organization called Skills-USA.

At the age of 17, Annaa graduated from high school to start her college education. She went to college and obtained an Associate’s degree in Media Arts from Arizona Western College in 2015. While attained Arizona Western she had the opportunity to complete two internships with the local television news station (NPG/KYMA) and the local newspaper (The Yuma Sun). She gained valuable skills by working with Graphic Designers and Producers. Some of the projects she was able to work on during this time were designing advertisements for websites and marketing materials for booklets. She also assisted news broadcasting producers in scouting and selecting shooting locations, conducted research for digital projects, and edited numerous video-shoots.

In the fall of 2016, Annaa completed a professional internship with the Disney College Program, giving her the opportunity to explore options in the film production industry. Annaa has a Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University in Filmmaking Practices. Annaa enjoy this fast-paced environment where she can contribute to the development of quality products in film and television.
